Genesis 38:27-29 (AMP)
27 Now when the time came for her to be delivered, behold, there were twins in her womb. 28 And when she was in labor, one baby put out his hand; and the midwife took his hand and bound upon it a scarlet thread, saying, This baby was born first. 29 But he drew back his hand, and behold, his brother was born first. And she said, What a breaking forth you have made for yourself! Therefore his name was called Perez [breaking forth].
Today I just landed in Pakistan. God spoke to me several months ago that He is going to open up countries that have been closed, and close up countries that have been opened. I’m not sure exactly what all that means, but on a surface level I know its time for breakthrough into areas that were not open for the Gospel and see change and transformation in measures we have never seen before.
For last two weeks, I’ve been writing on breakthrough as the Holy Spirit spoke to me one morning, “I want you to breakthrough”. So I’ve been writing to encourage those who God has connected to us to expect a fresh anointing to break through. Remember the Word of God is an instrument of breakthrough anointing! Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”.
Breakthrough is in You!
Perez is barely mentioned in Scripture but he is part of the lineage of Jesus. He was David’s ninth great-grandfather. In other words, Jesus came through Perez. And through Jesus you carry the spirit of breakthrough in you. Ephesians 3:20 (AMP) “Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]”.
The name Perez means “Barrier Breacher”. It comes from (peres (1826a), breach, usually in walls (Isaiah 58:12, Amos 9:11). It comes from the root (paras) meaning break (through, down, over), burst. This verb is used to mean breaching a wall (Isaiah 5:5), but also to break the stubbornness of people (Psalm 60:1). This verb may also be used to indicate a quantitative progression; a sudden increase in numbers, such as that of produce (Proverbs 3:10) or progeny (Genesis 28:14).
Perez was born as a twin to Tamar, and Judah was the father. When Perez and his brother were being born his brother Zerah put his arm out first, and the midwife put a red string around his wrist so that when both were born there would be no confusion as to who the firstborn was and therefore who would be the heir of the promises of Judah. After the midwife tied the red string around his arm, the arm disappeared and instead of Zerah being born first Perez evidently pulled Zerah’s arm back and Perez came out backwards as the first born. In Old Testament times, birthright sets the order of things. Perez had the midwife scratching her head and asking “How did you break forth?” Even when it looked like Zerah had the advantage, what in Perez made him push beyond what appeared to be? One can’t help but wonder what makes one withdraw and another break-forth?
Perez was obviously God’s choice to be the one to carry the line of the Messiah, but it appeared as if that destiny was not going to occur when Zerah put his arm out first and was identified as the first born by the midwife. Perez came out backwards, but God’s destiny was fulfilled in his life and he did fulfill God’s promises and purposes for his life. The blessing of Perez is that you will breach or breakthrough every barrier to fulfill God’s purposes and promises for your life and ministry. Even if things seem to be going backwards and not coming out the way you thought they were going to, there is an anointing being released to breach all barriers so that God’s words over your life will be fulfilled. This is the “Perez Blessing,” that all barriers will be breached, in your personal walk, life, anointing, and ministry
Breakthrough is Sudden, but often after long Delay
Luke 18:7-8 (NKJV) “And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily…”.
The wording in these verses is interesting, first it says, “He bears long with them”, and then “He will avenge them speedily”. The fruit connected with breakthrough: Longsuffering. When longsuffering (patience and endurance) are mixed with faith, it produces breakthrough. The secret is not waiting, but waiting in faith to inherit the promise of breakthrough. Hebrews 6:11-12 “And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises”. If things seem to be turning out backwards and not going in the direction you had thought they were going to go don’t be discouraged. To see breakthrough, we must never give up on something that is right and good. Understand that whatever we feed will get stronger. What you feed, will lead. If we feed the desire to see breakthrough, the passion we have to do whatever it takes to get breakthrough will also increase.
Breakthrough requires us to go First.
You must conquer to fear of going first. We are naturally programmed to let others go first, and then we follow, but those that have had a revelation understand that “Barrier Breachers” have to lead the way.
“Barrier Breachers” are not satisfied with the status quo so they are willing to go first and do something. Here are five things I know about “Barrier Breachers”.
“Barrier Breachers” initiate change.
They are change agents. They love changes. Change is never easy. And it is rarely painless. But it is inevitable. We all go through different times and seasons that require us to change, we must not wait for it, but initiate it. Ask your self are they are changes you need make in your thinking? Friend circle? Job? Etc.
“Barrier Breachers” see their past as a means to propel forward.
You see we are all the product of our past, but we must refuse to become a prisoner of it. Many use their past as an excuse and remain stuck in life. You must learn to use your past as a springboard to your future.
“Barrier Breachers” learn to encourage themselves.
Don’t wait around on people to build you and encourage you. You have the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to build you from inside. David learned to encourage himself in the Lord. How do we encourage ourselves in the Lord?
a) By learning how to talk to yourself
But isn’t that what people in the mental institution do. We are actually commanded by scriptures to sing to ourselves with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs? Psalms 42 & 43. This is one of the Psalms that David wrote when fleeing from Saul in the wilderness and as David was mulling over the past; his soul was overcome with discouragement. His soul was downcast. But there was one thing David knew: he knew how to encourage himself in the Lord. In Psalms 42 and 43, David said these words: why are you cast down O my soul? Hope in God for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and My God. David knew how to speak to his own soul. He knew how to speak to the discouragement and say: Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him. We must never allow our souls to govern our spirits. Our soul, which is the seat of our emotions, fluctuates with circumstances
b) By Thanksgiving
This is a whole subject in it self but I just want to quote one verse to you: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
What is the will of God for us? Rejoice always, pray without ceasing and in everything, give thanks. There are 3 things that stand out in this statement.
c) Speaking in tongues
There are only 2 occasions in the Bible that we are told to build ourselves up. Jude 1: 20 - “But you, beloved, building yourself up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost”
There are many kinds of faith in the Bible: Great faith, little faith; no faith, saving faith; But here we are introduced to the most holy faith and praying in the Holy Ghost is directly connected to this kind of faith. Now praying in the Holy Ghost is praying in tongues and whenever we pray in tongues, we build up our faith.
1 Corinthians 14: 4 - “He who speaks in tongues edifies himself”
‘Edify’ means to build up. The one who prophesies edifies the church but the one who speaks in tongues edifies himself. If we are not built up, how can we build others up? So how do we build ourselves up in the Lord? By praying in tongues! Now the word edify comes from the same root as the word edifice and an edifice is a large and imposing building.
Whenever we pray in tongues, we are constructing an internal edifice of faith from which the purposes of God become manifest. Whenever we pray in tongues, we are praying in agreement with God because we are speaking from the new nature we receive when we got born again. Sustained and prolonged praying in tongues always breaks you out of whatever state you are in are in and it brings you to a new level in God.
“Barrier Breachers” know what season they are in.
Every Season of your life comes with the grace of God to embrace, endure, and enjoy the season. When the season ends, the grace leaves. David said that a successful man or women is like a tree planted by streams of water, “which yields its fruit in season” [psalm 1:3 niv] You can only be fruitful in your season.
“Barrier Breachers” train themselves to see the unseen.
You have probably heard of the great author and wonderful entrepreneur Helen Keller, who became blind and deaf at 18 months of age due to an illness. But she was a remarkable woman who impacted her generation and in her old age, she was interviewed by a news anchor about her life and when she was asked through Braille: “Miss Keller, is there anything worse than being blind?”
She paused for a moment and said: It’s having sight without vision. This woman, who could not see physically, had more vision and accomplished far more than most people in her generation who could see. She was able to live a full and productive life because she had a heart full of vision.
Sight is the function of the eyes, but vision is the function of the heart. Ephesians 1:18 (AMP) By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones)
Question- what did the last judge of Israel, the last king of Israel, and the last church mentioned in the NT, have in common with one another?
They all lost their sight and were blinded before they were judged. It was as if their blindness was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It was because of their blindness that judgment eventually came
We have to train ourselves to see the unseen. If you spot it, you got it!
As we close, I want to finish off with seven more key points to pray through these seven days receiving Breakthrough.
LAST SEVEN DAYS OF 21 DAYS OF BREAKTHROUGH PRAYER…
DAY 15 - Breakthrough Prayer for Financial Freedom & Fruitfulness
Divine Provision, Miracle Supply, Zero Balance in Debt
Holy Spirit help me today to be conscious of giving opportunities (II Cor. 8:12-15, Col. 4:3-5), obedient in my tithing (Mal. 3:10), and compassionate for those who are in need (Prov. 19:17).
Lord, thank you that, by the hand of your Spirit, I am able to make wise plans in how to invest my money, time, and resources (Matt. 25:14-30, I Chron 29:3-5 Zech. 4:6). Help me to be wise in my budgeting and to close the doors on unnecessary spending (Prov. 21:20). Enable me to set aside the time to seek out good counsel (Prov. 15:22), making plans that are wise, just, and ordered of You.
Thank you, Lord, for the simple example of the ants who know how to wisely store up for the future (Prov. 6:8). Help me not to spend everything I make (Prov. 21:20), but to wisely discern the amount I need to set aside for future needs, opportunies, commitments, and long-range goals (II. Cor. 8:10-11, Prov. 6:8, 31:21, 27).
Lord, your ways are higher (Is. 55:8-9)! I ask you to renew my mind with your divine perspective about debt, credit, and borrowing (Prov. 11:15, 22:7, Rom. 13:6-8). Help me to be intentional about paying off my debts (Rom. 13:6-8), and let me be faithful in the little things of life so that you can entrust me with more (Lk. 16:10-12, 19:18-19).
Lord, thank you that you’ve called me to live a life of multiplication and not mere addition (Matt. 13:23, 25:14-30). As I look to you for vision for the future, help me to consider my options for investing (Prov. 21:5, 31:16-24), discerning the proper times (Ps. 90:12, I Chron. 12:32, Ecc. 8:5-6) and sowing with wisdom (Lk 19:13-26).
